Who We Are
Join our team of passionate Zutonites and help transform the car finance experience with simplicity and integrity.
Since our journey began in 2006, we’ve grown to a team of over 450 people — all driven by a shared purpose: to make buying a car transparent and hassle-free.
We know how important cars are in people’s everyday lives — for work, family and freedom — and that’s why we’re proud to help hundreds of thousands of customers every year. From day one, we’ve been redefining what success looks like, creating something special at Zuto: a business that leaves a lasting, positive legacy.
If you’re looking for an engineering environment where you can genuinely own problems, challenge existing approaches and help shape how we build technology, you’ll fit right in. We’re transforming our architecture and embracing AI-assisted development, giving our engineers the freedom and tools to move quickly, experiment and build better solutions.
The Role
As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll play a key role in Zuto’s wider architectural transformation, designing and building scalable, event-driven services that support the next stage of our growth.
This isn’t a role where you’ll simply pick up tickets and write code. We’re looking for engineers who want genuine ownership — from understanding an ambiguous problem and making technical decisions through to deployment, monitoring and improving what you’ve built in production.
We use AI tooling heavily across our engineering teams, allowing our engineers to work beyond traditional role boundaries and solve problems that may previously have sat with DevOps, infrastructure or database specialists.
What you'll be doing
Designing and building event-driven services with clear domain boundaries as part of our wider architectural transformation.
Taking genuine ownership of technical decisions from initial design through to production, monitoring and ongoing improvement.
Working across the stack and beyond traditional engineering boundaries to solve problems effectively.
Using AI-assisted development tools to increase engineering speed, capability and experimentation.
Building software that is scalable, secure, observable and built to last.
Treating testing, deployment, observability and operations as fundamental parts of software engineering rather than an afterthought.
Challenging existing technical patterns and helping define better approaches for the future.
Working collaboratively with engineers, Product teams and non-technical stakeholders to solve complex business problems.
Experimenting with new ideas and building proofs of concept to determine the right solution before committing to unnecessary complexity.
What you'll need
We’re looking for an experienced engineer who combines strong technical capability with ownership, curiosity and good judgement.
You’ll need:
Strong senior-level software engineering experience.
Experience taking ownership of complex or ambiguous technical problems and seeing them through from design to production.
Strong understanding of modern software engineering principles, scalable architecture and testing.
Confidence making technical decisions and understanding the trade-offs behind them.
Experience with, or a willingness to embrace, modern AI-assisted software development.
The ability to recognise when a solution needs to be built for scale and when keeping things simple is the better approach.
A collaborative mindset with the confidence to challenge existing approaches and contribute new ideas.
A willingness to work beyond the traditional boundaries of your job title when solving a problem requires it.
Nice to Have
Hands-on production experience with .NET.
Experience with AWS and infrastructure-as-code such as Terraform, CDK or CloudFormation.
Experience designing event-driven or message-based architectures, including queues, streams, event sourcing or domain-driven design.
Experience working across additional languages such as Python, TypeScript or Golang.
Experience working in environments that encourage experimentation and proof-of-concept development.
Our core backend technology is .NET, but we’re flexible on technical background for the right engineer. We care just as much about how you approach problems, make decisions and learn as we do about the exact technologies you’ve previously used.
